They were misled by a false prophet. They allowed themselves to be duped by satan. That is why it so important to study God's Word at home and not just depend on the preaching at church. When your preacher teaches something that is incorrect,and you know it is from your own studying, you can bring it up to him in front of the Church. You are responsible for what you allow into your heart. You are responsible for seeking the face of the Lord and not depending solely on others and what they say.
