Has national geographic got it wrong about the moon?

i asked a question today about when the earth is going to be seperated from the moon, the moon is moving away about 3cm a year so sooner or later the gravatational pull between the two mes is going to diminish.....now the answers i got back were that eventually the moon will reach a distance and stay there....but national geographic seem to think that its going to float off into space leaving us wobbling all over the shop.....SO WHO IS RIGHT?
