Buying a new electric guitar?

I want to buy a new guitar. My current guitar is an Ibanez rg120 and I was planning on buying a fender standard strat (The Mexican One). Its 440 bucks and I was just wondering If I should buy this guitar or if the differences are so minuscule that it would be a waste. Any Suggestions?
