How do i make my dog calm down or stop biting my clothes?

he's a 5 month old pitbull, so i guess he's still puppy. whenever i go out to play basketball, he is really hyper he bites my shorts or he'll jump up and bite my shirt. i get really pissed cause i cant play. sometimes i even threaten him with a broom, but i really dont want to. so can anyone please help me?
